The same applies in all cases and, given support, many more people with additional needs can succeed! What's spectacular about this example is that it seems (making an inference) that his issues were with decoding, and that his comprehension (understanding) of things he has learned isn't a problem! Great example! thanks!! Today we visited a cavern, so I'm interested to see how they will have synthesized the text information + their own experiences to enrich their original drawings. I think there is so much to learn from looking at what students draw before and after a text!Emily Kissnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08224456325843723671noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7249188039680566433.post-70098394838903370952013-11-15T05:58:40.875-08:002013-11-15T05:58:40.875-08:00Thank you for alerting me to the typo. The more familiar that you are with the text the less you sample its surface features. We tend to read for meaning, if meaning is realised then we probably will miss the error. This is because we often predict what is to come and we don't always sample every letter of the text

In regard to the sentence - it is correct. Yes, I have used a form for the children to record their wishes and achievements - called two stars and a wish - I don't know where the idea originated but I picked it up from a year 5 classroom a few years ago. I have used it in my COR Reading Comprehension Framework (see the Literacy Project Link on the right). It was a great success. However, I intend to improve this - the cake idea was one - two presents, two candles and maybe something in between (a type of 3 step self-regulation strategy e.g. goal (two types), monitoring, reflection.Dr Gary Woolleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16148590275990423900noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7249188039680566433.post-66099067912762364242012-04-19T05:35:13.613-07:002012-04-19T05:35:13.613-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.Dr Gary Woolleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16148590275990423900noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7249188039680566433.post-39597403599210007242012-04-17T17:57:58.154-07:002012-04-17T17:57:58.154-07:00I like the idea of thinking about goals as wishes!...I like the idea of thinking about goals as wishes!
